Shin Guards Discussions| Where can I buy shin guards? | | I've decided it would be better if I wore shin guards, as for a second time I have a nasty bruise on my shin. I would be grateful if anyone knows a good site as trying to find forearm guards was a nightmare, I eventually gave up and instead asked where my friend had got his. They are rugby ones but they work really well for martial arts.
| | Evolution of a Soccer Coach | | Year 1My kids have asked to play soccer, and I am in line with a bunch of other parents waiting to sign their kids up. As I approach the table, one of the women in charge, Diana Wagner grabs me and says (what I know now is her infamous line) “We Need You!”Ok I have not volunteered for ANYTHING since my first child was born (and I know my offers to finish the last piece of cake don’t count). Besides, I don’t even know this woman. So of course I get ready to politely decline, but there was something in her smile, something in her eyes that let me know that if I didn’t do this, I would be missing out on one of the greatest experiences in my life. So, instead of no, I said, “What can I do?” “You can coach!” She told me emphatically. Excuse me? OK, I played soccer when I was a kid; sure, sure I could coach. Tell that to my first team!I arrived at the soccer team fully armed (just about the only thing I did do right). I had grown up in a single parent home and I remembered my mom rushing home from work to get me to soccer practice only to realize that I’d forgotten my shin guards and water bottle. Determined that no player on my team would have to miss out on practice I... | |
| | Expensive to play soccer..>. < | | I just received a paper from my son to play soccer..They want 55.00 and we need to provide the ball, shin guards, shoes and shorts, so we are paying 55.00 for a shirt???Unless they changed, the coach doesn't get any money and why would it cost so much to sign up when all they provide is a shirt???How much does it cost where you are to sign up? What all does that include?? Once again my son may not be playing, this is way too over priced for our budget..[em]sad[/em] | |

| | Police prevent planned German, English hooligan brawl | |
Hamburg police said on Wednesday authorities had foiled a plan by English and German soccer hooligans to organise a mass brawl late on Tuesday in the city's red light district. German and British officers specialising in soccer violence had discovered the plan and some 100 Germans and about 150 English, who are in the country for Chelsea's Champions League match against Bremen on Wednesday, were detained. Ulrike Sweden, a spokeswoman for Hamburg police, told Reuters the men were so-called category C soccer fans, those who pre-arrange fights with rival hooligans.
A search of the men had revealed items including telescopic truncheons, a hatchet and protective equipment such as shin guards. Sweden said 18 men, both Germans and English, remained in custody and investigations were continuing. "We don't expect any more trouble in Hamburg but we'll have to see what happens tonight in Bremen," she added. A spokesman for Bremen police said there had been no trouble involving soccer fans reported by 1030 GMT on Wednesday. "The situation seems calm so far but you never know what can happen if the alcohol starts flowing," the spokesman said. Ten mounted...
